Forming Fire Workshop and Central New York Maple Festival

High school students from Marathon and Cincinnatus participated in Forming Fire, a three-day hands-on cast iron workshop with artists Heather Powell and Gavin Kenyon.  They had the chance to design an original pattern from Styrofoam and wood, create an open face sand mold, and cast it themselves in iron during the Central New York Maple Festival.  Please check out the slide show of the workshop and Maple Festival below.  We had a great time!

Central New York Maple Festival

Please join us during the Central New York Maple Festival on April 2 & 3 from 9 AM-5 PM to witness the spectacle of molten metal! Talk with students participating in the Forming Fire workshop about their experience with creating cast iron objects, and make your own cast iron tile to take home!

You can find outerspace next to the tennis courts and behind the Civic Center on Brink Street, Marathon.  Proceeds from this event support outerspace youth programs.

Forming Fire Workshop

Do you want to play with fire? Come explore the art of creating cast iron sculpture with artists Heather Powell and Gavin Kenyon. This three-day workshop will give you the chance to design your own sculpture, make a mold of it, and ultimately cast it in molten iron.  Each participant will see up-close the process of melting iron using a small furnace- just like the gigantic furnaces used in steel mills!  This workshop is free, so come on down…
